How might we encourage parents to tell children family stories?
How might we rethink family storytelling in the digital economy?
Unboring is a digital and creative studio located in Spain. They developed an app: The Dreamsons, that told the story of a family. The founder wanted to rethink the experience based on Marshal Duke’s research about how rituals within the family and telling our children about family events can help boost their confidence when confronting all types of challenges,
We tested his assumptions and discovered a new need for parents and kids when digital devices are consuming most of the family time: sharing family stories. We created a whole experience based on this insight.
We used design thinking methodologies. During the inspiration stage of the process we ran research to identify needs for the way families spend their time around digital devices. We came with the idea of “what if we create a whole experience to help parents share family stories and build new memories and also support them to tackle "difficult" conversations?” We ran 2 co-creation sessions with parents and experts in childhood education and came up with the concept: Play. Tell. Share. An app, books, physical products and materials to support parents and help them build great family memories.
